Shunt for Life Project

This is one of the oldest projects VESTA initiated and it is still ongoing. The Project’s main goal is providing shunts for the operations of children with Hydrocephalus.

Hydrocephalus is a brain condition which occurs when cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) — the clear, water-like fluid that surrounds and cushions the brain and spinal cord — is unable to drain from the brain. It then pools, causing a backup of fluid in the skull.

The funds we raise for this project help abandoned and orphaned children with hydrocephalus. The timely surgical intervention saves children’s lives and gives them a chance to have a normal life after the operation. The Shunt for Life Project sponsored more then 10 operations of children, placed in institutions, to include purchase of the necessary shunts and other consumables not covered by the Health Fund in Bulgaria.

Timely Help Project

VESTA participates in the realization of a project for humanitarian aid, treatment and socialization of special needs children. The goal of the Project is to improve the quality of life of the abandoned and orphaned children through timely medical and social support. With regards to the individual needs of the children, the Project provides for specialized medical consultations and treatment, initiatives and activities for social integration, and individual help and support. The idea of the Project is to cover the prophylaxis, the medical and social needs of the children and the illnesses and conditions in children that require treatment that is not covered by the Health Fund in Bulgaria. In implementing the Project, VESTA hired additional orphanage staff to ensure the better care for the children placed in institutions.

World Inside of Me Project

VESTA participated in the development and the implementation of the project World Inside of Me for social integration of children placed in the orphanage in Rousse. The main goal of the project is to introduce the children to the outside world through various age appropriate activities and to promote their communication skills and successful integration in the society.
